Indira Cepero Roman was born on the 27th July 1986 in Habana, Cuba. For Indira, her Mother has been an important presence and inspiration in her life, always encouraging her to develop her talent for singing. Indira soon began taking lessons in singing, dancing and acting, with her first acting role in Federico Garcia Lorca, the main theatre in Habana, at the tender age of 5. Aged 12 she had her television debut singing on a children’s programme called FANTASTICO, followed by a role 3 years later in Haciendo Caminos. Indira’s professional life as a singer started when she was 16 with the Tabaco Band, with whom she sang from 2002 until 2009, travelling around many different islands in the Caribbean. Musically, her main inspirations are Gloria Estefan, Mark Anthony and of course Celia Cruz, amongst others.
Indira’s professional life here in the UK began in 2009 for Salsa Kingdom, where her big personality won many hearts with her fabulous voice and captivating smile.
Indira is currently performing with various Latin music projects here in Bristol, her main focus of course being the tropical funk vibes of AJI PA’TI. In 2011 she recorded a cd with the Colombian pianist Raimundo Fernandez and has collaborated extensively with Latin bands in the South West: K-Chevere, Baila la Cumbia and Timbaterra. Indira was even fortunate enough to perform with the incredible Colombian Maestro Roberto Pla and his big band in London this year.
AJI PA’TI has certainly kept Indira busy, with performances in Hootananny and Passing Clouds in London, and numerous festivals. She is very much at the centre of the band, involved in writing and recording new material for a prospective album launch.
